The ILA GCC Branch co-organized an intellectual workshop in Geneva titled the Role of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in Resolving Intellectual Property (IP) Disputes in Qatar, in Alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 16, in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva, in collaboration with WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Centre of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Qatar Research, Development and Innovation (QRDI) Council and Qatar International Court (QICDRC).
The Workshop was intended to serve the preparations for the upcoming Conference with WIPO in Qatar on The Role of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), Intellectual Property (IP) Protection and Innovation in Advancing Foreign Direct Investment (FDIs) for Sustainable Development: Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV30) and Beyond – 1 & 2 September 2025.
The Project discussed at the workshop, amongst other aspects, investigated whether Qatar’s established reputation for resolving conflicts can extend to international intellectual property rights disputes, with a focus on promoting ADR as effective mechanisms for such disputes thereby promoting Qatar to foreign investors in matters involving IP rights.
The workshop, during which the Project was discussed, brought bring together distinguished intellectuals, IP experts, lawyers, legal experts and senior researchers from Geneva and Qatar, to engage in a comprehensive discussion and examination on the role of ADR in resolving IP disputes in Qatar, with a particular focus on the alignment with SDG 16 which advocates for peaceful, just, and inclusive societies and justice systems.
